NCAA College Football D-IA Playoff System

The first thing that would have to happen is all teams that wish to participate in the playoff MUST be in a two division super conference.  To that there is NO Exception.  Yes that means you too Notre Dame.  In order to be in the playoff you must win your division.  It would be up to each conference to settle it's ties.  What this would do other than distinguish legitimate playoff representatives is allow big time programs to play each other out of conference each year without the result costing them a potential playoff spot.  We would have Championship Weekend starting on Thursday night and settle all Conference Champions over that weekend.  Thus the 1st round of the playoff.
The 2nd round would be held the next week using as many bowls as needed.  For example we'd pair the SEC Champion and Big 12 Champion each year in the Sugar Bowl.  Pair the Pac 10 v Big 10 in the Rose Bowl.  In the Orange Bowl we'd probably put the Big East v ACC.  and so forth.  What this does is regionalize the 2nd round, uses the old BCS bowls and creates new season end rivalries.  One of the things the BCS destroyed in college football was SEC goes to the Sugar, Big 12 goes to the Orange.  This system puts new season end rivalries back into place.
The 3rd round, and this would depend upon the number of conferences we end up with.  8 would be ideal so I'm going with that.  The 3rd round would have 4 teams left. These two games would be played at neutral sites each year possibly letting cities bid on them and the Championship games each year.  Then the Championship Game would be held the following weekend.
Any team that failed to win their respective division and had at least 6 wins, would be eligible for one of the other 32 bowl games.  These games would be played in the weeknights leading up to the playoff games on the weekend.
To summarize:
8 Super conferences with Division Champions would put 16 teams in the playoff.
2nd Round is held using as many of the BCS Bowls as needed
3rd and final rounds held on biddable neutral sites to be selected in advance.  Everyone else gets to go to a bowl including conference championship runner ups.

Fig Newton and the SHeisman Trophy, Gus, Nebraska and playoffs.

Who was the highest paid player in college football in 2010?  Had to be Cam (Fig) Newton.  Had to be.  That little bit of money won't seem like much this time next year.   He'll be an instant millionaire in the NFL probably out for the season on injured reserve.  He was the best player in the sport so why shouldn't he be paid the most.  Makes you wonder about the 2nd, 3rd and 4th best players.  What did they make?
Wonder if he will tell his dad how much his NFL contract is worth?  Wonder if his dad will tell Fig how much Under Armor paid him to tell Fig to sign with UA? (Under Armor or Auburn take your pick)
And how dumb is Gus Malzahn for not taking the Vanderbilt job?  My gosh, they must have told him all is well there won't be any probation. Not until after the BCS game.  They probably left that part out.   I'm ranting I know but there is a lot on the Common Fan's mind on a day like today.  Oh and Word to Nebraska:  worry about your own house.  We got pictures too.  One more thing... playoffs are the only thing that will level the sport beyond all of the cheating.  You can take the polls out of it by taking only conference champions to the playoff. ( that's right Irish... you have to get in a conference or don't CFB doesn't really need you anymore)  If every conference got a representative to the big dance, the SEC wouldn't have to cheat to make sure they get two every year.  (email me if you think that's an accident)  And if you REALLY want a playoff, stop watching and going to bowl games.  I have to get back on my meds now.

Why Would NCAA Expose Itself Like This? $$$$$$$

Consider this, if the NCAA declared Cam Newton ineligible right now, they might not make it to the BCS Championship game.  The idea of an undefeated SEC Team with the current Heisman Trophy winner is way too much for them to pass up.  The advertising dollars alone would be significantly larger with that match up compared to Oregon and TCU.

Not to worry, after the money has all been collected, the NCAA will introduce the "new evidence" and Cam, Auburn, The SEC, Mike Slive and half the Alabama State Legislature will go sailing down the river. AFTER!!
Because after, they can take everything back except the money that was spent.  So why not wait?  Let the boy win his trophies, they can take them back later and it won't cost them a dime.  Pitiful, especially for the rest of the schools in College Football.

NCAA Declares "OK To Cheat" As Long As The Player Doesn't Know

If this would have been Boise State, Cam Newton would have been declared ineligible and BSU would be on 5 years probation for flying in the face of the almighty NCAA.  If it had been Alabama, the NCAA would have been so mad they would have given SMU the death penalty again.  Is there a bigger joke in sports than the NCAA?  By ruling Cam Newton eligible because he didn't know about his father shopping his services around, the NCAA has pretty much left the door open to shop your kids, as long as you don't tell them.  Make a cash transaction that can't be traced, and boom, you're off scott free.  Basically Auburn played out their hand and the NCAA folded.  Or did they?
Are they just waiting for it all to be over one way or the other before they lower the boom on Auburn and the Newtons?  Maybe they are just waiting for Auburn to lose and then come up with the "new evidence" to sink that ship.  Something has to happen or it will NEVER be right.
You would think at some point, there would be some schools out there that are trying to do things the right way and would stand up and say "hey, this ain't right".  Maybe they all cheat, but if they all do, there are some schools out there that evidently aren't doing it right.   In fact, if they all do it, Arkansas State and Memphis suck at it.  There are way more "have nots" than "haves" in College Football.  They need jump in here and it needs to stop.   But what do I know, I'm just The Common Fan.

Vince Or Jeff? Somethings Got To Give

Tommy Tuberville said " you lose 10% of your fan base every year..."  Jeff Fisher has been with the Titans/Oilers for 17 seasons.  It's probably time.  Every time this subject comes up, all of the talk show hosts say the Titans would be crazy to let Jeff Fisher go.  That any team would be more than happy to have him as a head coach.  The Common Fan says:  "Then take him".  Jeff Fisher's record in 17 seasons is barely above .500.  His offensive philosophy of lets just score enough to get ahead is a joke.   His quarrel with Vince Young has split the team  whether anyone will admit to it or not.  The NFL is different today than it was 17 years ago.  Everybody tries to score as many points as they can, except the Titans.  I heard Jeff Fisher say one year that his game plan was for the defense to hold the other team to fewer points than the offense can score.  This past Sunday, that was impossible.  They didn't score.
As for Vince Young, yes he is immature and needs a belt.  But, I'm not convinced that his issues with Fisher are completely one sided.  I suspect that Fisher has a mental block when it comes to Young because he has basically been told when and where to play him by Titans owner Bud Adams.  That's a hard thing for a man of his ego to comprehend.   I suspect VY could have started against The Eagles.  They started Collins instead claiming Vince Young was not 100%.  When Collins got hurt, Young looked 110% to me.  Right or wrong if VY suspects that Fisher has it in for him it could be causing some of his emotional displays.  And yes, Jeff Fisher wants to win games, but ego says you have to win them your way not Bud Adam's way.  And ego is 2nd on  the list of things that take a good man down the fastest and the most.  A Woman is first but ego is a distant but SOLID 2nd.
I could be right, I could be wrong, but I am The Common Fan.
